The first teaser trailer for Pablo Larraín’s Jackie is here and it’s quite a moody, creepy piece. Set to the reprise of “Camelot” and shot in a standard aspect ratio and with Natalie Portman voiceover as First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, the 1:40 teaser evoked Birth, starring Nicole Kidman, for me. It’s lush and spooky and intriguing all at once and Portman is breathtaking.

From Fox Searchlight:

[box type=”shadow” align=”” class=”” width=””]JACKIE is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). JACKIE places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband’s assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband’s legacy and the world of “Camelot” that they created and loved so well.[/box]

Jackie was directed by Pablo Larraín (Neruda, No, The Club),written by Noah Oppenheim (The Maze Runner, Allegiant) and co-stars Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt, Max Casella and John Carroll Lynch and Beth Grant. Mica Levi (Under the Skin) composed the score and the film was produced by Darren Aronofsky, Mickey Liddell, Scott Franklin and Ari Handel.

Portman, a major Best Actress contender this year, sits at #2 in this month’s Oscar predictions from the Gold Rush Gang and from the Forum Oscar Poll results.

Jackie hits theaters in limited release on December 2nd, then wider on December 9th, from Fox Searchlight.

Here are the first teaser trailer and first poster.
