New Academy member Regina Hall shines in ‘Support the Girls’ trailer
Regina Hall (Girls Trip), who was just yesterday was invited to join the Academy, gets a showcase in the new trailer for writer/director Andrew Bujalski’s acclaimed comedy Support the Girls where she has received universal praise for her performance.
Hall plays Lisa Conroy, the general manager at at Hooters-style bar and grill called Double Whammies. Corralling and protecting a handful of 20-something women in the face of disrespect and exploitation, Lisa is an exasperated and big-hearted mother figure to the girls. The film debuted and was a hit at this year’s South by Southwest and is a bit of a departure from his previous films.
Official synopsis:
[box type=”shadow” align=”” class=”” width=””]Lisa Conroy is the last person you’d expect to find in a highway-side “sports bar with curves,”– but as general manager at Double Whammies, she’s come to love the place and its customers. An incurable den mother, she nurtures and protects her girls fiercely–but over the course of one trying day, her optimism is battered from every direction…Double Whammies sells a big, weird American fantasy, but what happens when reality pokes a bunch of holes in it?[/box]
