“Last week, I was told women are too emotional to be lawyers.”
As timely as a film could get in our current political climate, On the Basis of Sex chronicles the rise of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (played by Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones) as she breaks through glass ceiling after glass ceiling in a male-dominated world. From being one of only a few women accepted at Harvard Law to co-founding the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU, Bader Ginsburg overcame all odds to become one of the most influential figures in the battle for equal rights, passionately arguing ground-breaking landmark cases and giving a voice to those unable to be heard. RBG celebrated her 25th year on the bench this year.
On the Basis of Sex is currently slated to world premiere at AFI Fest next month as the Opening Night Film. It is directed by Mimi Leder from a screenplay by and also stars Armie Hammer, Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates and Cailee Spaeny.
Focus Features will release it nationwide on Christmas Day.
