North Carolina Film Critics: ‘Da 5 Bloods’ tops nomination list with 7

The North Carolina Film Critics Association (NCFCA) announced their nominations on Monday and Spike Lee’s summer streaming hit Da 5 Bloods found gold with a field-best 7 nominations including Best Narrative Film, Best Director for Spike Lee and two acting nods: Best Actor for Delroy Lindo and Best Supporting Actor for Chadwick Boseman.

Nomadland and Minari were next with six each, followed by Mank with 5 and Promising Young Woman with 4.

New this year for the group was an award for the Best Restoration (film or home video release. Nominated were Beau Travail (The Criterion Collection), The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Warner Bros.), Mädchen in Uniform (Kino Lorber), Native Son (Kino Lorber) and Roman Holiday (Paramount Home Entertainment).

Another special category for the NCFCA is the Ken Hanke Memorial Tarheel Award, given to a film, performer or crew member from North Carolina. The three nominees are The Dancin’ Bulldogs — Film, Will Patton (Minari) — Performer, and Gary Wheeler — Producer/Industry Professional.

The NCFCA currently consists of 54 film critics living in or serving outlets in North Carolina.

Winners will be announced January 4, 2021. Here is the full list of nominations.
