From Cannes hits like I, Daniel Blake, Toni Erdmann and Elle to high-profile films in the Oscar hunt like Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight, this year’s New York Film Festival looks to have something for everyone.

The Opening, Centerpiece and Closing Night films – The 13th, 20th Century Women and The Lost City of Z, respectively – have been previously announced.

Kristen Stewart and Isabelle Huppert will be doing double duty as each have a pair of films in the main selection. Stewart comes in with Kelly Reichardt’s Certain Women and Olivier Assayas’s Cannes-winning Personal Shopper and Huppert with Mia Hansen-Løve’s Things to Come and Paul Verhoeven’s Elle. Other Cannes films include Graduation (Bacalaureat) from Cristian Mungiu, Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson starring Adam Driver and a new cut of the The Dardenne Brothers’ The Unknown Girl.

“Good filmmaking is by people who need to get their films made, and will do anything it takes to do that,” said Kent Jones, New York Film Festival director and selection committee chair.

Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea adds to its festival run this fall and Moonlight from Barry Jenkins makes it bow. Both are also expected to hit Telluride and are major players in the Oscar race in the writing and acting categories but also in the hunt for Best Picture and Best Director.

The 54th New York Film Festival runs Sept. 30 through Oct. 16. Watch for its Special Events, Spotlight on Documentary, Retrospective, Convergence and Projections sections, as well as filmmaker conversations and panels, in the coming weeks.
