After a flurry of critics groups announced winners this weekend, the American Film Institute (AFI) announced their top 10 films of 2014. Make that a top 11. For the first time in their history, they had a tie so we have a top 11 list. Not a whole lot of surprises, most of the same big names being tossed around this fall like Birdman, Boyhood, Selma and Unbroken.
Harvey was able to finagle The Imitation Game, a largely British production, onto this American list (he was unable to do that with The King’s Speech back in 2010), which received a special citation). Foxcatcher saw a much-needed breath into a dying campaign. Surprisingly though, the box office smash Gone Girl and The Grand Budapest Hotel wind up snubbed here, in favor of the likes of Nightcrawler and Interstellar, a box office and critical dud.
