‘Pain and Glory,’ ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire,’ ‘An Officer and a Spy’ lead 2019 European Film Awards (EFA) nominations

The Favourite and The Traitor also earned four nominations

At the Seville European Film Festival, the European Film Academy and EFA Productions announced the nominations for the 32nd European Film Awards with Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory, Céline Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Roman Polanski’s An Officer and a Spy leading with four apiece. This comes just days after Polanski was accused of rape once again, this time by French actress Valentine Monnier, who said the “extremely violent” rape occurred in a ski chalet in Switzerland.

Among The Favourite‘s four nominations was one for Olivia Colman for European Actress. Colman won the Oscar for her role as Queen Anne last February. Two of four nominations for Portrait of a Lady on Fire were a shared nod for leading actresses Noémie Merlant & Adèle Haenel.

Among the European Actor nominees were Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Jean DuJardin (An Officer and a Spy) and Levan Gelbakhiani for And Then We Danced.

The more than 3,600 EFA Members will now vote for the winners who will be presented during the awards ceremony on December 7th in Berlin.
