The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) announced their nominations for 2019 film and Bombshell, The Irishman and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood have earned the most nominations with four apiece. Each were nominated in the Outstanding Cast category along with Jojo Rabbit, The Irishman and the South Korean critics hit Parasite – a first for a foreign language film.
Bombshell also earned three individual nominations, for Charlize Theron in lead actress and two in supporting actress: Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie. The Irishman earned two supporting actor nods (Al Pacino and Joe Pesci) plus a Stunt Ensemble nod. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood earned nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio (lead), Brad Pitt (supporting) and for the stunt ensemble. Margot Robbie picked up three nominations; as a member of the casts of Bombshell and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and an individual mention for supporting actress in Bombshell.
Marriage Story earned three individual nominations (for Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Laura Dern) but missed out on a Cast nomination. Johansson received three nominations herself today, as she also picked up a supporting actress mention for Jojo Rabbit.
SAG factoid: with today’s announcement, Leonardo DiCaprio has surpassed Denzel Washington as the most nominated actor ever, with 6. Tom Hanks now ties Washington’s 5 nominations.
Robert De Niro, who missed out on a nomination today, is the 2020 recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
