Philadelphia Film Critics Circle go mad for ‘Ma Rainey,’ Amanda Seyfried and ‘Da 5 Bloods’

The Philadelphia Film Critics Circle gave Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom its first Best Picture win of the season and with it Viola Davis’s second Best Actress win. The film was also runner-up in Best Actor for Chadwick Boseman, who won Supporting Actor for Da 5 Bloods.

Boseman’s Da 5 Bloods co-star Delroy Lindo won Best Actor and was the runner-up in Best Picture. Amanda Seyfried won Best Supporting Actress for Mank, making all acting awards going to Netflix films.

The Best Directorial Debut went to Regina King for One Night in Miami and the group’s Best Script prize was given to Jon Raymond and Kelly Reichardt for their adaptation of First Cow.

Best Breakthrough Performance: Sidney Flanigan, Never Rarely Sometimes Always (RU: Maria Bakalova, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)
