The Portland Critics Association (PCA), in their first year, have announced their winners for the best in film for 2021 and David Lowery’s The Green Knight has won the group’s Best Picture prize. It was the film’s only win among its nine nominations.

The Power of the Dog won awards for Jane Campion in Best Director and Best Screenplay as well as Benedict Cumberbatch in Best Actor. Kristen Stewart was named Best Actress for Spencer, Ariana DeBose won Supporting Actress for West Side Story and there was an inspired win in Supporting Actor for Jeffrey Wright in The French Dispatch. That was one of three wins for the Wes Anderson vignette-style film.

The org also highlights Oregon-based features where Michael Sarnoski’s Pig won.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune led the nominations with 10 and won seven, the most of any film, followed by Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog with 9 nominations, and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story with 7 nominations.

The Portland Critics Association was founded as a “group of writers, reviewers, broadcasters and cinema historians, dedicated to amplifying public awareness and appreciation of the cinematic arts.” You can find a full list of their 10 members on their site here.
