Producers Guild of America (PGA) Winners

Birdman destroys the competition, winning PGA’s Best Picture

Well, those asking for a change from the predictable slog of awards season got their wish tonight as the Producers Guild of America gave their top award to Birdman. Most expected Boyhood to take this in a walk (it’s already won the Golden Globe and BFCA) or at the very least saw The Imitation Game or American Sniper as possible contenders. Birdman actually lost the Globe to The Grand Budapest Hotel so it looks like we have a fragmented race on our hands. With the Screen Actors Guild tomorrow and Birdman already looking like a frontrunner for the Cast in a Motion Picture award (as well as Actor for Michael Keaton), is that going to vault Birdman to new Oscar Best Picture frontrunner status? Obviously Boyhood could still win at SAG and it would certainly help get it back on track after this derailment but what if The Grand Budapest Hotel wins? It beat Birdman at the Globes so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. It’s definitely going to make for an interesting month no matter who wins tomorrow.
