Production begins on Focus Features’ ‘Promising Young Woman’ with Carey Mulligan, Bo Burnham, Laverne Cox, Molly Shannon

Production has begun in Los Angeles on Promising Young Woman, with Carey Mulligan (Paul Dano’s Wildlife; Suffragette) and Bo Burnham (Eighth Grade) leading an all-star cast that includes Alison Brie (Glow; The Post), Connie Britton (Dirty John; Friday Night Lights), Adam Brody (Shazam!; The O.C.), Jennifer Coolidge (A Mighty Wind, Legally Blonde), Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black), Max Greenfield (New Girl; Hello, My Name Is Doris), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World; Superbad), Sam Richardson (Veep; Detroiters), and Molly Shannon (Other People; Divorce).

Official synopsis:

Everyone said Cassie (Carey Mulligan) was a promising young woman … until a tragic event abruptly derailed her future. Now she’s a medical school drop-out, living at home with her worried parents and working at a coffee shop with a concerned boss (Laverne Cox). It seems like she is at a standstill, except for the double life Cassie leads at night…

Promising Young Woman is written and directed by Emerald Fennell (Killing Eve; The Crown; Call the Midwife). Fennell is also producing with FilmNation’s Ben Browning and LuckyChap Entertainment’s Margot RobbieJosey McNamara, and Tom Ackerley. FilmNation’s Ashley Fox is executive producing, and Fiona Walsh Heinz isco-producing. Focus Features and Universal Pictures International will distribute the film worldwide, excluding Australia, New Zealand, Benelux, Israel, Greece, Middle East,CIS, and South Africa.

The filmmakers of Promising Young Woman also include production designer Michael Perry (Under the Silver Lake; Killer Elite), costume designer Nancy Steiner (Twin Peaks; The Killing of a Sacred Deer) and director of photography Benjamin Kracun (Beast; The Tunnel).
