Ready Freddie? New Trailer for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is here

The second trailer for 20th Century Fox’s Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody starring Rami Malek is here.

The new trailer opens up from the previous one with more performance footage and, more importantly, a bit more exploration of Mercury’s sexuality. After the first trailer was accused of ‘straightwashing’ Mercury too much and hedging his actual cause of death from AIDS (the first synopsis simply referred to it as a “life-threatening illness”). It seems 20th Century Fox has learned a bit from that initial backlash. Not to say this is an over the top super gay trailer by any means, just a bit more than before and a big improvement as a trailer overall.

On top of that the film was already weighted down by the controversy over original director Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men 2) abruptly leaving the production 3/4 through and being replaced by Dexter Fletcher. Singer will retain solo director credit on the film due to DGA regulations but appears nowhere in the press materials.

Bohemian Rhapsody was written by three-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten (Darkest Hour, The Theory of Everything) from a story by McCarten and Oscar and Emmy nominee Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon, The Crown) co-stars Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, and Mike Myers.

20th Century Fox will release it November 2nd. Here is the new trailer.
