Alfonso Cuarón’s ROMA leads the 2018 North Carolina Film Critics Association (NCFCA) nominations with 8 mentions, including Best Film, Director and Best Actress for Yalitza Aparicio.
The NCFCA consists of forty-two professional critics who live in the state or whose work contributes to an outlet based in North Carolina.
If Beale Street Could Talk was next with six and rounding out the Best Film nominees were BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther and First Man all with five mentions apiece.
A Star Is Born also earned five nominations, including three for acting, as is the most nominated film to not get a Best Film nod.
The Coen Brothers grabbed a Best Director spot for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, one of only two mentions for the multi-vignette film (cinematography being the other).
Bohemian Rhapsody and Vice earned single nominations, both for their lead actors.
Winners will be announced on January 2, 2019. Here is the full list of nominations.
