The San Francisco Film Critics Circle nominations are in, including a shocking snub for Emma Stone in La La Land despite her co-star Ryan Gosling getting in. Also, a double citation for Hell or High Water in Supporting Actor.
Arrival, Hell or High Water, La La Land, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight are their picks for Best Picture of 2016. Their director choices almost follow suit with Loving‘s Jeff Nichols replacing Hell or High Water‘s David Mackenzie. Both films still performed very well today with two acting nominations apiece and with Hell or High Water also picking up a screenplay mention.
Moonlight, Arrival and La La Land were the group’s top picks, with 8 nominations apiece. Next were Hell or High Water and Manchester by the Sea both of which grabbed six. Jackie earned four.
The Handmaiden picked up three nominations – in Adapted Screenplay, Production Design and Foreign Language Film. It is only eligible for the former at the Oscars as it was not South Korea’s pick for FLF there.
Special Citations were given to The Fits, Krisha and Pushing Dead.
Winners will be announced on Sunday, December 11th.
