“When I was a kid, my hair was everything. I had to be fixed, only then was I perfect.”
Based on Trisha R. Thomas’ best-selling novel of the same name, Nappily Ever After tells the story of Violet Jones (Sanaa Lathan) who has a seemingly perfect life — a high-powered job, an eligible doctor boyfriend and a meticulously maintained, flawless coiffure. But after a life-changing event doesn’t go according to her plan, and a hair-raising incident at the hairdresser, her life begins to unravel. Eventually, Violet realizes that she was living the life she thought she was supposed to live, not the one she really wanted.
The film is directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour with a screenplay adapted by Adam Brooks and Gina Prince-Bythewood. It co-stars Ricky Whittle, Lyriq Bent, Ernie Hudson, Camille Gauty, Brittany S. Hall, Racquel Bianca John and Lynn Whitfield.
Nappily Ever After premieres September 21st only on Netflix.
