Saturn Awards: ‘Black Panther’ leads film nominations with 14; ‘Walking Dead’ leads TV mentions

It was a good day for Disney as the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films announced their Saturn Award nominations today. The massive Marvel blockbuster Black Panther earned the most for feature film with 14 but Star Wars: The Last Jedi (now also Disney) was right behind with 13.

Two recent Oscar winners, The Shape of Water (Best Picture and Director) and Blade Runner 2049 (Cinematography, Visual Effects), earned nine nominations apiece. Comic book superheroes Wonder Woman and Logan (aka Wolverine) grabbed six apiece. Get Out earned five nominations including one for its screenplay. It won the Original Screenplay Oscar earlier this month.

The group even found places (albeit odd ones) for The Post (Best Thriller) and The Greatest Showman (Best Action/Adventure).

On the television side The Walking Dead was tops with seven nominations, with its spin-off Fear the Walking Dead earning three more. Star Trek: Discovery was nominated five times and a quartet of shows: Game of Thrones, American Horror Story: Cult, Riverdale and Twin Peaks: The Return all came in with four apiece.

The Saturn Awards will announce their winners at their 44th ceremony this June.
