The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri topped the 2017 Detroit Film Critics Society nominations today with six apiece. Right behind was Get Out with five. All were nominated for Best Film alongside The Disaster Artist and The Florida Project. Lady Bird also got five nominations, including one for director Greta Gerwig, but missed on Best Film.
Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) received dual nominations; for Supporting Actress and Breakthrough and The Post landed a Best Ensemble nomination but no individual ones. It’s only other mention was in screenplay. Mudbound also received an Ensemble nom and that was its only mention. Dunkirk got a director nomination for Christopher Nolan but nothing else.
Either with, or without irony, the film Detroit received zero nominations.
The results will be tabulated and the winners will be announced on Thursday, December 7.
