Sia’s ‘Music,’ ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ ‘Hubie Halloween’ top longlists for 2021 Razzie Awards

The Golden Raspberrys, aka the Razzies, who “honor” the worst in film every year and often with a tongue firmly planted in cheek, has revealed their nominating ballot longlists and the films and performances that will be competing to be the best of the worst of 2020.

Full of spirited description, this year’s main contenders include a Polish Fifty Shades of Grey remake called 365 Days, Hubie Halloween from Adam Sandler (a Razzie favorite), Robert Downey, Jr.’s flop Dolittle remake, a documentary from the ‘My Pillow’ guy and of course, Sia’s Golden Globe-nominated autism musical disaster Music.

Glenn Close, another Golden Globe nominee this weekend, is potentially up for Worst Supporting Actress for Hillbilly Elegy, which also found its screenplay and director (Ron Howard) on the longlist for a nomination. Previous Oscar winners Nicolas Cage, Judi Dench, Christopher Walken, Anne Hathaway, Diane Keaton and Hilary Swank are also in the running for performance that won’t be generating any Oscar buzz this season.

Last year’s biggest loser was Tom Hooper’s Cats, which scurried off with 6 wins, including one for James Corden, who managed to escape the longlist this year for his much-derided performance as a gay man in The Prom.

The nominees for the 41st Golden Raspberry Awards will be revealed on March 14, 2021 with the actual awards being on April 24, 2021.

WORST PICTURE

365 Days – A Polish remake of Fifty Shades of Gray, this film not only got a rare 0% Rating at RT but was also found so sexually offensive that 95,000 signed a petition to remove it from Netflix…

Absolute Proof – This “documentary,” financed by and starring “The My Pillow Guy” Mike Lindell, purports to “prove” the canard that “voting irregularities” resulted in the 2020 Presidential election being “stolen.”

All 3 “Barbie & Kendra” Movies – Made for next-to-nothing (but worth even less) these quickie straight-to-streaming titles popped up like a pimples on America’s backside during the Covid Shutdown…

Dolittle – The last Big-Budget Box Office Bomb theatrically released before The Lockdown, Dolittle is a totally faithless umpteenth remake of the classic book about a man with a gift for talking to the animals.

Fantasy Island – This oddball remake takes the old TV series (“De plane! De plane!”) and crossbreeds it with Twilight Zone for a dark and decidedly murky “re-imagining” which almost nobody liked.

Hubie Halloween – Adam Sandler produced and stars in this dim-witted trick-or-treat tale of a Town Idiot who “rescues” All Hallows Eve…just by being an Insufferable Dork.

Love, Weddings & Other Disasters – A failed “Rom-Com” (4% @ R.T.) which follows several couples in a plot that stumbles along as awkwardly as does Diane Keaton playing a clumsy blind woman.

The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson – Like last year’s Razzie “winning” Haunting of Sharon Tate, this low budget oops-fest finally “solves” the “mystery” of who killed Nicole. SPOILER ALERT – It wasn’t O.J.!

Music – A mis-guided “musical comedy” about an autistic teen-ager who “learns about life” under the guidance of her new guardian, this has a 90% Negative Rating on R.T. and is loathed by autistics everywhere.

The Wrong Missy -Adam Sandler produced this laff-free R-off of The Hottie & the Nottie, in which David Spade accidentally invites an “ugly” girl to a corporate retreat instead of the sexy blonde he just met. UGH!!
