Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) nominations: ‘Don’t Look Up,’ Nicolas Britell, Diane Warren, Germaine Franco lead

The Society of Composers and Lyricists have revealed their nominations for original scores and songs from 2021 films and leading the way is Nicolas Britell with three nominations, and Diane Warren, Germaine Franco and Jonny Greenwood, each earning two nominations today.

For Don’t Look Up, composer Nicholas Britell is nominated for the film’s score in the studio film category as well as the song “Just Look Up” from the film, which he shares with Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi and Taura Stinson. He is also nominated in the television section for HBO’s Succession. Songwriter Diane Warren is nominated for two of her songs, “Somehow You Do” from the feature film Four Good Days and “(Never Gonna) Tame You” from the documentary The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses. Encanto composer Germaine Franco is nominated for the film’s score as well as Kung Fu Panda: Land of Awesomeness in the Interactive category.

Other top score nominees include: Hans Zimmer for Dune, Germaine Franco for Encanto, Alexandre Desplat for The French Dispatch, Jonny Greenwood for The Power of the Dog and Spencer, Daniel Hart for The Green Knight and Alberto Iglesias for Parallel Mothers.

Major song nominees include “Guns Go Bang” from The Harder They Fall, “No Time to Die” from No Time to Die, “Home All Summer” from In the Heights and “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” from Respect.

Television score nominations alongside Succession include Loki, Squid Game, WandaVision and The White Lotus.

Composer Carter Burwell and filmmakers Joel Coen & Ethan Coen will receive the Spirit of Collaboration Award for their 17-film team-up along with a musical tribute performance that’s set to feature Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear and Judith Hill.

Here is the full list of nominations from the Society of Composers and Lyricists. Winners will be announced on March 8 at a live, in-person ceremony to be hosted by Darren Criss at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
