The nominations for the best in sound for 2016 film from the 53rd Cinema Audio Society are here and Sully has made its first appearance this season after being virtually absent. Not terribly surprising in this category as its sound design team is chock full of CAS and Oscar winners.

One interesting omission here is Arrival but that also recalls last year when The Martian missed CAS but still went on to an Oscar nomination in the Sound Mixing category anyway. The winner here last year was the team from The Revenant. They went on to be Oscar-nominated but lost to Mad Max: Fury Road.

On the television side, Black Mirror, The Night Manager, The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story and Game of Thrones are among the nominees.

The 53rd Annual CAS Awards will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza – Bunker Hill Ballroom, Los Angeles, California.
