Taron Egerton to play Elton John in biopic ‘Rocketman’ for Paramount

Taron Egerton is set to star as Oscar, Grammy and Tony-winning superstar and music legend Elton John in Rocketman for Paramount Pictures.

Dexter Fletcher, who replaced Bryan Singer on the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody due this November, will direct.

The will be written by Lee Hall and follow John from the Royal Academy of Music to his songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin to superstardom. To date, John has earned an Oscar (for The Lion King), a Tony (for Aida) and five Grammys. He’s sold over 300 million records during his 50+ year career.

Egerton and John co-starred in the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, for director Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn is on board as a producer for Rocketman with his company Marv Films. Fletcher also previously directed Egerton in Eddie the Eagle.

Production is set to begin this summer.
