After a wave of support on Twitter from fans and stars alike, the Alvarez family will be back. Netflix has renewed their Norman Lear reboot for a third season.

From creators Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce, this contemporary One Day at a Time, set in Echo Park in Los Angeles, features a Cuban-American family led by Justina Machado as a newly-single mom and military veteran and EGOT winner Rita Moreno and her feisty and frisky mother. The returning cast also includes Todd Grinnell, Stephen Toblowsky, Isabella Gomez and Marcel Ruiz.

The gained tremendous social support for its pro-immigrant storylines (specifically Moreno’s Lydia and her immigrant status), daughter Elena discovery of her sexuality and superbly tackling the language of gender and sexual fluidity, and engaging its audience on Latinx identity.

Executive Producers include Norman Lear, co-creators/co-showrunners Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce, Michael Garcia and Brent Miller. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Netflix.

13 new episodes will return to Netflix in 2019.
