‘The Americans,’ Escape at Dannemora,’ ‘Gianni Versace’ lead Critics’ Choice Television nominations

Finding room for freshman series and final seasons alike, the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), the TV wing of the Critics’ Choice Awards, first seasons of Amazon’s Homecoming (3 nominations), BBCAmerica’s Killing Eve (3), Netflix’s My Brilliant Friend (1), FX’s Pose (2) and HBO’s Succession (2) will compete in Best Drama Series alongside AMC’s Better Call Saul (3), FX’s The Americans (5) and CBS All Access’ The Good Fight (1). 

For Best Comedy Series, the nominees are Atlanta (3 nominations), Barry (3), NBC’s The Good Place (3), Netflix’s The Kominsky Method (2), Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (4), ABC’s The Middle (1), Netflix’s One Day at a Time (3) and Pop TV’s Schitt’s Creek (1).

On the Limited Series and TV Movie side, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story (FX) and Escape at Dannemora (Showtime) earned five apiece. They join Amazon’s A Very English Scandal, Netflix’s American Vandal, NatGeo’s Genius: Picasso and HBO’s Sharp Objects.

HBO led the networks with 20 nominations, followed by FX with 17, Amazon with 12 and NBC and Netflix with 11 each.

Winners will be revealed at the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards (along with the group’s movie awards), and be broadcast live on The CW Network on Sunday, January 13, 2019.
