‘The Power of the Dog,’ ‘Dune,’ ‘Encanto’ top Latino Entertainment Journalists Association Awards

Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog took top honors from this year’s edition of the Latino Entertainment Journalists Association (LEJA), winning best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay and best editing from the group.

Two other films, Dune and Encanto, also won four awards. Dune triumphed in the technical categories like sound, visual effects, production design and cinematography while Encanto scooped up animated, song and score wins.

Andrew Garfield was named Best Actor for tick, tick…Boom!, Penélope Cruz won Best Actress for Parallel Mothers while the supporting awards went to Troy Kotsur for CODA and Ariana DeBose for West Side Story. All four are Oscar-nominated for their roles and Kotsur and DeBose recently won Screen Actors Guild Awards for their performances.

The LEJA membership honored Lin-Manuel Miranda with their Latino Activism Award and John Leguizamo received the 2022 Rita Moreno Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognized the actor, producer and comedian as a tireless force in the Latino community. The Latino Breakout Award was given to West Side Story star Rachel Zegler.
