Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog dominated the nominations from the Columbus Film Critics Association announced today, with 12 including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actor for both Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons and Best Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst.
Licorice Pizza is its nearest competitor with 8 nods, including Best Film, Director and Best Actress for Alana Haim. Speaking of Best Actress, that category offered some surprise inclusion and snubs from the Ohio group. Joining Haim are Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Olivia Colman for The Lost Daughter, Taylour Paige for Zola and Tessa Thompson for Passing. Notably missing was critics’ frontrunner Kristen Stewart for Spencer, whose film earned just one nomination, for Jonny Greenwood’s score.
Belfast and Dune were also top scorers, with seven nominations apiece, followed by West Side Story with five.
Winners will be announced on January 6. Here is the full list of nomimations.
