The first part of the first Children’s & Family Emmy Awards were held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 10 in a ceremony hosted by singer, dancer and actor JoJo Siwa which focused on the creative arts, with awards for achievements in writing, directing, voice direction, cinematography, editing and more.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the establishment of the Children’s & Family Emmys in late 2021, splitting from the Daytime Emmys to create their own show, acknowledging recent growth in scope and reach among that programming, which NATAS president and CEO Adam Sharp said could “stand on its own two feet.”

Netflix’s Maya and the Three won three awards, including outstanding writing for an animated program; Disney+’s The Quest won two, including outstanding directing for a multiple camera program and the hit Netflix series Heartstopper, which made the dramatic move to the Children’s & Family Emmys from the Primetime Emmys, won for its casting.

The next part of the Children’s & Family Emmys, also to be held at the Wilshire Ebell, will award categories such as children’s or family viewing series, preschool children’s series, young teen series, fiction special, animated series and performer acting categories.
