The Florida Film Critics Circle went wild for The Shape of Water, giving the fantasy romance nine nominations, the most of any film. Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri all came in with seven apiece and Call Me By Your Name earned five. All films were nominated for Best Picture and the directors of all of them were nominated save Call Me By Your Name‘s Luca Guadagnino.
Newcomers Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird) and Barry Keoghan (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dunkirk) earned multiple nominations. Chalamet in Best Actor and Breakout; Keoghan in Best Supporting Actor for The Killing of a Sacred Deer, as part of the Ensemble of Dunkirk and for Breakout.
Both Call Me By Your Name supporting actors, Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg, were nominated and the awards-dormant Wonderstruck from Todd Haynes found life today with nominations in Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Art Direction/Production Design and a Breakout nomination for Millicent Simmonds. Blade Runner 2049 earned four tech nominations.
Strangely absent? The Florida Project. The critical hit only earned a single nomination, for Willem Dafoe in Supporting Actor.
