The teaser trailer for Damien Chazelle’s ‘La La Land’ will have you dancing on air
Every decade or so there is a resurgence of the movie musical. Chicago and Moulin Rouge! did in in the early 2000s and now the teaser for Damien Chazelle’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Whiplash is here and boy, is it beautiful. La La Land, the story of a jazz pianist (Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling) and an aspiring actress (Oscar-nominee Emma Stone) recalls the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals like An American in Paris and set in modern day Los Angeles. Lushly shot, dialogue-free and with Gosling singing “City of Stars” (cue up that Best Original Song Oscar nomination), this third outing for Gosling and Stone as co-stars (after Gangster Squad and Crazy, Stupid, Love) is sure to light up the screen.
La La Land also stars Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock and John Legend. The film is set to open this year’s Venice Film Festival (where the jazz-infused Best Picture-winning Birdman also started) and then land in theaters on December 2nd in limited release (and wider on December 16th) from Lionsgate.

Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.[/box]
Here’s the nifty poster, oh so cleverly shaped like an old record instead of a traditional rectangle.
