Elisabeth Moss, Cate Blanchett, Topher Grace and Dennis Quaid look for the Truth

The much anticipated trailer and poster for Sony Pictures ClassicsTruth, starring Academy Award-winners Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford have dropped we have them. Part All the President’s Men, part Broadcast News, Truth is a riveting piece of cinema with a powerhouse performance by Cate Blanchett. Sony Pictures Classics could be looking at their third Best Actress Oscar in a row.

Based on the book “Truth and Duty: The Press, The President and the Privilege of Power” by Mary Mapes, Truth is the incredible true story of Mary Mapes (played by Blanchett), an award-winning CBS News Journalist and Dan Rather’s producer, who broke the Abu-Ghraib prison abuse story, among others. The film chronicles the story Mapes and Rather uncovered that a sitting US president may have been AWOL from the United States National Guard for over a year during the Vietnam War. When the story blew up in their face, the ensuing scandal ruined Dan Rather’s career, nearly changed a US Presidential election, and almost took down all of CBS News in the process.

Truth, the directing debut of screenwriter James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), made its debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and will be at the Mill Valley Film Festival next month before its official release and also stars Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss and Stacy Keach. It begins in select theaters on Oct. 16.
