You didn’t think the first announcement was all there was, did you? TIFF director Cameron Bailey is still dead set on Toronto being the go to for bringing the Oscar goods to his festival and in this announcement today he reveals that Sony Pictures Classics is going all in with I Saw the Light, the Hank Williams biopic starring Tom Hiddleston. This comes just a week after the news that SPC had picked up New York Film Festival’s Closing Night film Don Cheadle’s Miles Ahead, a film in direct competition with I Saw the Light for a similar Oscar trajectory. SPC also adds Truth, with Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford, to the TIFF mix.
Sundance Selects adds 45 Years with Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay, about a couple who’s 45th wedding anniversary is torn by some shocking news and an old secret. This is good news for Rampling as her Oscar hopes were dwindling quickly and she needed a festival appearance to keep them alive. Warner Brothers enters the festival season with Our Brand Is Crisis starring Sandra Bullock and The Weinstein Company, in the midst of a mass exodus right before the fall festival and winter Oscar season is about to begin, brings the trans teen drama About Ray starring Elle Fanning, Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon (which Harvey bought for a cool $6M) just before its September 18th theatrical premiere.
But, it’s not over yet. Next Tuesday the 25th will be the final announcements so keep tuned in.

TORONTO — The Toronto International Film Festival® adds 5 Galas and 19 Special Presentations to its highly anticipated international lineup including the Closing Night Film, Paco Cabezas’s Mr. Right.
