Honeyland, from directors Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov, was the most awarded film out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, winning the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, a Special Jury Award for Cinematography, and another Special Jury Award for Originality.
Hatidze, the last female beehunter in Europe, lives with her ailing mother in the mountains of Macedonia, making a living cultivating honey using ancient beekeeping traditions. In the exquisitely shot documentary, Hatidze must save the bees and return the natural balance when a family of nomadic beekeepers invade her land and threaten her livelihood.
Neon will release Honeyland on July 26th.
