A new player in this Oscar race has emerged; from Participant Media, BBC Films and Bleecker Street comes the the trailer for the Mick Jackson film Denial. It stars Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener), Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson (In the Bedroom, Michael Clayton) and Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner).

The film, which is based on a true story, tells of historian Deborah E. Lipstadt and her legal battle for historical truth against David Irving, who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the English legal system, the burden of proof is on the accused; therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust happened. It is based on Lipstadt’s acclaimed book “History on Trial: My Day in Court” and adapted by Academy Award nominated writer David Hare (The Reader, The Hours) and directed by Emmy winner Mick Jackson (Temple Grandin).

Producers are Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff. Participant Media’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King, BBC Films’ Christine Langan and Joe Oppenheimer, Bleecker Street’s Andrew Karpen, and Shoebox Films Guy Heeley are Executive Producers.

The film will be released by Bleecker Street (Trumbo, Eye in the Sky) on September 30th.
