Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix-produced ‘Gunda’ intimately examines sentience within animal species’

Experiential cinema in its purest form, Gunda chronicles the unfiltered lives of a mother pig, a flock of chickens, and a herd of cows with masterful intimacy. Using stark, transcendent black and white cinematography and the farm’s ambient soundtrack, director Victor Kossakowsky invites the audience to slow down and experience life as his subjects do, taking in their world with a magical patience and an other worldly perspective. Gunda asks us to meditate on the mystery of animal consciousness, and reckon with the role humanity plays in it.

The documentary is produced by Anita Rehoff Larsen, co-produced by Joslyn Barnes and Susan Rockefeller, executive produced by Tone Grøttjord-Glenne and Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix and is nominated for five Critics Choice Documentary Awards.
Gunda will have an exclusive one week virtual run from NEON in New York and Los Angeles on December 11 then everywhere in 2021.
He is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, accredited by the Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and more, is a member of the International Cinephile Society (ICS), The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) and the International Press Academy.
