This is not a love story. This is a story about love.

Writer/Director Sam Levinson (Euphoria) teams up with Emmy Award winner Zendaya (Euphoria) and John David Washington (Tenet) for Malcolm & Marie, an achingly romantic drama in which a filmmaker (Washington) and his girlfriend (Zendaya) return home following a celebratory movie premiere as he awaits what’s sure to be imminent critical and financial success. The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationships begin to surface, testing the strength of their love.

Netflix bought the modestly budgeted black-and-white film for $30 million following a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2020. The film was shot by Marcell Rév at Feldman Architecture’s Caterpillar House in Carmel, California where the production team went to great lengths to keep the set in compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols and with the approval of Hollywood unions.

The film is produced by Kevin Turen, p.g.a., Ashley Levinson, p.g.a., Sam Levinson, p.g.a., Zendaya, p.g.a., John David Washington, p.g.a. and executive produced by Will Greenfield, Aaron L. Gilbert, Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer and Scott Mescudi.

Malcolm & Marie will be in select theaters in January and on Netflix beginning February 5.
