In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they had to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.

As Society of the Snow premieres on Netflix today, we can share exclusive interviews featuring the emotional stories of the survivors as they navigated through the aftermath of the plane crash and its profound impact on the families of those who never made it off the mountain alive.

The featurette includes interviews with survivors Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa who fought against all odds for their lives amidst the wreckage, as well as family members who grappled with the loss of their loved ones. These untold stories offer a raw and unfiltered look at the human spirit’s capacity for survival and resilience in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Society of the Snow is directed by J.A Bayona and is short-listed in four Oscar categories: including best international film, VFX, score and hair & make-up.
