What Oscar winners Chloé Zhao, Daniel Kaluuya and more have coming up next

The names are barely engraved on the statues but, as Frances McDormand said accepting her third Best Actress Oscar win, “I love work!”

Here’s what Oscar winners from last night’s 93rd Academy Awards have coming up next to whet your appetite.

Mollye Asher, Dan Janvey, Frances McDormand, Peter Spears, Chloé Zhao (Best Picture) – NOMADLAND

Asher has Catch the Fair One, about former champion boxer embarks on the fight of her life when she goes in search of her missing sister.

Janvey has So This Is What the Songs Are All About, a story of two old childhood sweethearts, both widowed, share a night by a lake in the mountains that stars Dale Dickey and Wes Studi.

McDormand has Women Talking from Sarah Polley, who will direct from her own script, based on Miriam Toews’ bestselling novel which follows a group of women in an isolated Mennonite religious colony in Bolivia as they struggle to reconcile their faith with a series of sexual assaults committed by the colony’s men. Co-produced by Plan B and set up at MGM’s relaunched Orion Pictures.

Spears has Leading Men, a fictional tale based on the novel by Christopher Castellani where Tennessee Williams and his longtime lover Frank Merlo befriend a young Swedish woman named Anja on the glittering Italian Riviera in July 1953 at a party thrown by Truman Capote.

Zhao has Dracula for Universal Pictures, a sci-fi western take on the classic vampire story, which she will write, direct and produce.

Chloe Zhao (Best Director) – NOMADLAND

Marvel’s Eternals, about a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations, and starring Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan and Gemma Chan. It will hit theaters November 5, 2021.

Zhao is also in early development on Dracula for Universal Pictures, a sci-fi western take on the classic vampire story, which she will write, direct and produce.

Anthony Hopkins (Best Actor) – THE FATHER

No rest for the 83-year old Oscar winner as Hopkins has the hitman thriller The Virtuoso set for VOD release on April 30; Where Are You, about photographer experiencing an artistic decline begins taking his aggressions out on his artist girlfriend; XCII aka Zero Contact, One Life, a biopic about the life of Holocaust hero Nicholas Winton; and Cus and Mike where he’ll play championship boxer Mike Tyson’s trainer for Nick Cassavetes.

Frances McDormand (Best Actress) – NOMADLAND

After her third Best Actress win we’ll next see McDormand in The Tragedy of Macbeth from her 4-time Oscar-winning husband Joel Coen. Based on the classic Shakespeare play but decidedly updated and unique vision of the story, it’s shot by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel in black & white and utilizes the traditional 4:3 Academy ratio. It also stars two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington, Corey Hawkins and Brendan Gleeson.

Daniel Kaluuya (Best Supporting Actor) – JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH

Kaluuya will rejoin Jordan Peele for an upcoming untitled horror film that co-stars Oscar nominee Steven Yeun and KeKe Palmer and he also has The Upper World, based on the sci-fi YA novel by Femi Fadugba, about a man who is caught in a deadly feud and on the verge of expulsion when he realizes he has an unexpected gift: access to a world where he can see glimpses of the past and the future, which he will also produce for Netflix.

Youn Yuh-jung (Best Supporting Actress) – MINARI

Youn does not have any upcoming 2021 feature films or projects at the moment but she has a reality tv show called Youn’s Kitchen where a group of South Korean actors open up a pop up restaurant Indonesia (Season 1) and the Canary Islands (Season 2). The the third season, as a result of COVID, has Youn hosting a bed and breakfast and is called Youn’s Stay. Choi Woo-shik (from Parasite) joined the cast. You can stream the series on Viki.

Emerald Fennell (Original Screenplay) – PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN

Next up is the DC Comics heroine film Zatanna, a magician and considered one of the most powerful sorcerers in the DC universe. Her magical abilities are genetic, as her dad Giovanni Zatara was also an alchemist. The film is set up at Bad Robot and Warner Bros.

Florian Zeller (Adapted Screenplay) – THE FATHER

The Son, the next in his play trilogy is a frightening tale of teen depression starring Academy Award winner Laura Dern and Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman.

Christopher Hampton (Adapted Screenplay) – THE FATHER

Next up is A German Life, starring Academy Award winner Maggie Smith and The Son, Florian Zeller’s next film, which stars Academy Award winner Laura Dern and Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman. Also, the long-in-development adaptation of the Sunset Blvd musical starring 8-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close.

Mikkel EG Nielsen (Film Editing) – SOUND OF METAL

Nielsen had Land, which was released in February of this year but no upcoming films slated.

Erik Messerschmidt (Cinematography) – MANK

Devotion, about pair of U.S. Navy fighter pilots risk their lives during the Korean War and become some of the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen. That’s set up at STX and Sony and stars Glen Powell, Jonathan Majors and Joe Jonas. There are also rumblings about a possible third season of Netflix’s Mindhunter.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Original Score) – SOUL

Reznor is on the soundtrack of the 2021 Showtime series Your Honor with Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee Bryan Cranston but no upcoming feature film scores. Ross composed the score for the Netflix film Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal (released in March) but has no upcoming feature film projects.

Jon Batiste (Original Score) – SOUL

Batiste does not have any upcoming 2021 feature films or projects at the moment.

Donald Graham Burt (Production Design) – MANK

Burt does not have any upcoming 2021 feature films or projects at the moment.

Ann Roth (Costume Design) – MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM

She may the be oldest living Oscar winner ever, but the 89-year old Roth has The Humans for A24 and starring Oscar nominees Steven Yeun and Richard Jenkins in the can as well as the upcoming adaptations of Wicked and Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret.

Mia Neal, Jamika Wilson, Sergio Lopez-Rivera (Makeup and Hairstyling) – MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM

Staying booked and busy, Neal has The Humans, Noah Baumbach’s White Noise, starring Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig, Jazzman’s Blues and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret directed by Kelly Fremon Craig and starring Academy Award nominee Rachel McAdams, Academy Award winner Kathy Bates and Benny Safdie.

Jamika Wilson and Sergio Lopez-Rivera have Aaron Cooley’s Showtime limited series The First Lady and reunites them with Academy Award winner Viola Davis, plus Michelle Pfeiffer, Gillian Anderson and Aaron Eckhart.

Jamie Baksht, Nicholas Becker, Phillip Bladh, Michelle Couttolenc, Carlos Cortés Navarrete (Sound) – SOUND OF METAL

Becker has the Sundance 2020 film John and the Hole, and the Alexander Aja film Oxygen, about a woman who wakes in a cryogenic chamber with no recollection of how she got there, and must find a way out before running out of air. It stars Mélanie Laurent and Mathieu Amalric and debuts May 12 on Netflix.

Bladh has the Mike Mills film C’mon C’mon, starring Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix, Gaby Hoffmann, Woody Norman and Jaboukie Young-White from A24, the sci-fi superhero drama The Hyperions with Cary Elwes, Tanner Buchanan, Penelope Mitchell and Sal Lopez and When You Finish Saving the World, the directorial debut of Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg and starring Academy Award winner Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard from A24.

Navarrete has Pobo’tzu – Noche blanca, about the 1982 eruption of the Chichonal volcano in southern Mexico that buried the Zoque indigenous town of Guayabal.

Scott R. Fisher, Andrew Jackson, David Lee, Andrew Lockley (Visual Effects) – TENET

Fisher has Top Gun: Maverick coming July 2 from Paramount Pictures and starring Tom Cruise and The Tragedy of Macbeth with Academy Award winners Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington and directed by Academy Award winner Joel Coen for A24.

Jackson, Lee and Lockley do not have any upcoming 2021 feature films or projects at the moment.
