The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has revealed its 2021 nominations for feature film and documentary film on Tuesday.

In Original Screenplay we have Judas and the Black Messiah, Palm Springs, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

In Adapted Screenplay we have Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, News of the World, One Night in Miami and The White Tiger.

As mentioned in my prediction piece, several high-profile Oscar contenders were not going to be found today due to eligibility issues, including AmmoniteEmma. The FatherLet Them All TalkMankThe MauritanianMinariNomadlandPieces of a Woman. Animated films are always out so that means no Soul (or Wolfwalkers, for that matter). That said, it’s a big blow to Da 5 Bloods and a boost for The White Tiger (I knew I should have listened to my instincts…and Kris Tapley there).

Nominations in television were previously announced, where Better Call Saul topped the mentions.

Winners will be announced in a joint ceremony, from Los Angeles and New York, on March 21, 2021.

Here is the full list of nominations.
