Searchlight Pictures today released the full trailer for Poor Things, from Academy Award-nominated director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite) and starring Academy Award winner Emma Stone (La La Land), Oscar nominees Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher) and Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project), Emmy Award winner Jerrod Carmichael, Emmy Award nominees Ramy Youssef and Margaret Qualley, and Christopher Abbott.

A Frankenstein’s monster tale, Poor Things tells the story of the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

The director’s previous film, 2018’s The Favourite, earned 10 Oscar nominations (including a Supporting Actress nod for Stone), winning Best Actress for Olivia Colman. Lanthimos directs from a screenplay by Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Tony McNamara (The Favourite, Hulu’s The Great) and is produced by Lanthimos, Stone, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe.

Searchlight Pictures will release Poor Things on September 8. Here is the trailer and new poster.
