2017 Oscar Predictions: BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR (June)
[divider style=”solid” top=”20″ bottom=”20″]
Despite Liam Neeson (Silence) still dominating the top spot, we have some changes from last month. Steve Martin (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) and Armie Hammer (The Birth of a Nation) swap spots and nearly point totals putting Hammer is 2nd place now. Former top 5-er Ben Kingsley (War Machine) plummets down to #10 with a single vote. Steve Carell (Café Society) falls off the list this month and is replaced by Hugh Grant (Florence Foster Jenkins) on the strength of strong reviews for the film and for himself. The Moonlight guys (Mahershala Ali and Andre Holland) find themselves next to each other but this month Holland leapfrogs over Ali to land in the top 5.
Elsewhere, John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane) manages to hang on, as does Aaron Eckhart (Sully) and Adam Driver (Silence). The big news this month is a huge jump for Stephen Henderson (Fences). He goes from #10 and a single vote last month to #4 with seven Gold Rush Gang member all slotting him in their #4 positions. Henderson reprises his Tony-nominated role from the stage play (as do the film’s leads Denzel Washington and Viola Davis). Let’s see if he can hold that through the summer.
