2017 Oscar Predictions: BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS (July)

Unlike Best Supporting Actor we are seeing some action here in Best Supporting Actress this month from last month. Even though the #1 and #2 spots stay the same, Moonlight‘s Naomie Harris is inching closer to Manchester by the Sea‘s Michelle Williams for that top spot and in doing so is the first to give us the start of a real race in this category. Laura Dern (Wilson) makes a move from 4th to 3rd, flip-flopping with Rachel Weisz (The Mercy, formerly Deep Water) and Nicole Kidman (Lion) falls hard, losing her top 5 spot.

This month we also lose Katey Sagal (Bleed For This), Julianne Moore (Maggie’s Plan) and Annette Bening (20th Century Women). Bening’s loss here though was her huge gain in Best Actress where now all of her votes lie.  Those losses have paved the way for Kristen Stewart in Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk to now find herself in the top 5, more than doubling her point total in the process.

But, this is still a really open field and most of these films and performances remain to be seen so we’ll be keeping a close eye on Jennifer Aniston (The Yellow Birds), Aunjanue Ellis (The Birth of a Nation) and Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) in the coming months.

Here are the July predictions for Best Supporting Actress from The Gold Rush Gang:
