2018 Oscar Predictions (June): BLADE RUNNER 2049 Tops Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score, Production Design

The original Blade Runner had one of cinema’s most memorable and indelible scores from Vangelis but wasn’t nominated for it. Jóhann Jóhannsson takes over the reigns here as a two-time Oscar nominee. This is a much closer race with Dunkirk, Wonderstruck and Darkest Hour in tight quarters with The Papers rounding out the top 5 if John Williams scores it. Watch out for newly minted Original Score Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land) joined by Oscar nominee John Debney to make a play here for The Greatest Showman. That is, if the music branch of the Academy deems the input of all three composers as equal.
