2018 Oscar Predictions (June): BLADE RUNNER 2049 Tops Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score, Production Design

This is Blade Runner 2049‘s fourth top spot, and by a decent margin. The Academy doesn’t always shine to sci-fi production design but the work here by Oscar winner Dennis Gassner seems solid. Interestingly, this was one of only two categories the original Blade Runner was nominated in (the other was Visual Effects). It might start to sound repetitive but Darkest Hour, Dunkirk and Wonderstruck find themselves in the top 5 here as well joined by The Greatest Showman. We’ll be keeping an eye on other period and fantasy pieces like Beauty and the Beast (2017), The Current War and Murder on the Orient Express (2017) here.
