2020 Oscar Nomination Predictions: SOUND EDITING & SOUND MIXING (September)

FORD v FERRARI
AD ASTRA
Vroom vroom, bitches.
Race cars, space wars and world wars make up the bulk of the top contenders for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing this season with 20th Century Fox’s Ford v Ferrari and Ad Astra plus Disney’s Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker and Universal’s 1917 leading the pack for September.
With so many musicals and musical biopics this year, Sound Mixing should find itself room for at least one of them and I think Rocketman will fit that bill more than the rest, especially after the double wins from Bohemian Rhapsody in both sound categories last season (an Oscar first). But watch out for Roadside’s Judy and Universal’s Cats to possibly stake a claim there.
Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood should find a spot, possibly in both categories, and Warner Bros Joker and Universal’s Us are stealthy contenders.
Here are my 2020 Oscar Nomination Predictions in Sound Editing and Sound Mixing for September 18, 2019.
