FINAL 2024 Oscar Predictions: SUPPORTING ACTOR

Like Da’Vine Joy Randolph in Supporting Actress, Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer) made a clean sweep of the precursors and even led regional critics wins, although he missed all of the trifecta (LAFCA/NYFCC/NSFC) wins.
In his winner speeches so far, Downey Jr. has largely been the opposite of Randolph’s self-effacing nature; there is a clear sense from him that he knows his history and legacy have been a big part of path this season. It doesn’t hurt that he’s the eventual Best Picture winner but Downey has had a storied Hollywood career of some pretty big ups and downs, a narrative that the Academy loves, that audiences love.
Early on it seemed that Ryan Gosling’s comic turn in Barbie could give chase, and he pulled off more than a dozen critics wins, but it wasn’t Kenough to get past Downey Jr.’s villainous Strauss.
Here are my final 2024 Oscar predictions for Supporting Actor.
1. Robert Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer (BAFTA, CCA, GG, SAG)
2. Ryan Gosling in Barbie (BAFTA, CCA, GG, SAG)
3. Sterling K. Brown in American Fiction (CCA, SAG)
4. Robert De Niro in Killers of the Flower Moon (BAFTA, CCA, GG, SAG)
5. Mark Ruffalo in Poor Things (CCA, SAG)
