2017 Oscar Predictions: THE SCREENPLAYS (September)
[divider style=”solid” top=”20″ bottom=”20″]
Not a lot of movement in Adapted Screenplay from last month, other than Love and Friendship hitting the top 5 for the first time, displacing Sully, which falls off entirely. Nocturnal Animals shows some strength on the back of its great reviews at Venice and Toronto. Lion holds on with a single vote of confidence.
Original Screenplay, on the other hand, is quite changed up. Gone is The Birth of a Nation and in its place are two newcomers; the summer sleeper hit Hell or High Water and one of the most buzzed about films at Venice and Toronto, Jackie. Jackie has yet to be picked up but that could happen as soon as today. Moonlight moves up from #5 to #3 this month and our faith in La La Land getting a nomination here is still strong despite the fact that musicals have a notoriously difficult time getting in here.
