We’re getting close.
After wrapping production nearly 15 months ago (long even by Scorsese standards), we’re on the precipice of the release of the trailer for Silence, from Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese. It will be attached to Allied (also from Paramount) this Friday and then landing on the web Saturday.
Ahead of the trailer, Paramount has dropped a few more production stills to whet our appetite. Finally, another picture of Liam Neeson for the prediction images! Speaking of predictions, here’s where the Gold Rush Gang sees Silence‘s place in the Oscar race right now – #3 in Best Picture, #2 in Best Director, #5 in Best Actor, and #1 in Best Supporting Actor. More categories, including Cinematography and Production Design, follow.
Official Paramount synopsis:
[box type=”shadow” align=”” class=”” width=””]Martin Scorsese’s SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) — at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director’s 28-year journey to bring Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel to life will be in theaters this Christmas.[/box]
Silence will have a limited release on December 23rd and then open wider in January.
Here is the poster for Silence and new stills of the film of Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson. Surprised at Scorsese’s co-writing credit; he hasn’t been a part of a screenplay for one of his feature films since 1995’s Casino. But, this has been a decades-long effort to bring to the big screen so the personal investment in it is substantial.
