FINAL 2022 Oscar Nomination Predictions: MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING, VISUAL EFFECTS
Taking the Makeup and Hairstyling bake-off results and three precursors we have for the category, the top four of Dune, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, House of Gucci and Cruella feel pretty safe. The fifth spot is a quandary but Cyrano’s type of period hair and makeup is the only traditional type of its kind this year (think Emma., Mary Queen of Scots or Victoria & Abdul) and its BAFTA nomination, it should be able to topple Coming 2 America (a reportedly very poorly executed bake-off) and even The Suicide Squad, who’s pre-boot version actually won here.
Visual Effects is quite tough one this year with only Dune being a certified lock. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was doing even better with precursors than Dune was until the rather surprising BAFTA snub. The inclusions of Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Free Guy give me pause, the inclusion of No Time to Die, less so. Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn’t eligible there and I know well enough to not go against CGI apes at the Oscars, they love them, so in stays Godzilla vs. Kong. But this is one of the most difficult categories with the potential for a huge snub and films with just a single precursor making it in.
Here are my final 2022 Oscar nomination predictions for Makeup and Hairstyling and Visual Effects.
