‘Black Panther,’ ‘black-ish’ lead 50th NAACP nominations

The nominations for the 50th NAACP Image Awards celebrating the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of film, television, music, and literature were announced today with Disney’s Black Panther leading the film nominations (16) and ABC’s black-ish out in front for television with 9.

Other top nomination getters were Warner Bros.’ Crazy Rich Asians, 20th Century Fox’s The Hate U Give and Annapurna Pictures’ If Beale Street Could Talk with 9 apiece; HBO’s Insecure earned 8 and NBC’s This Is Us grabbed 6.

The Netflix limited series Seven Seconds earned 8 nominations including one of Regina King’s three nominations overall and one of Russell Hornsby’s two mentions.

Grammy winners Kendrick Lamar, Ella Mae, Childish Gambino and H.E.R. highlighted the music nominees.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) will receive the the NAACP Chairman’s Award.

The 50th NAACP Awards will be held March 30th in a ceremony to be held live on TV One.
