‘Get Out,’ ‘Kedi,’ ‘Okja’ are North Carolina Film Critics Association (NCFCA) Winners

Get Out has won another top prize from the critics, this time the North Carolina Film Critics Association. This brings the total Best Picture/Film wins for the horror-comedy to 10. The film also won Best Director and Original Screenplay, both for Jordan Peele.

Even though Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri was the most-nominated film going in, it had to settle for the group’s Tar Heel Award, which goes to a person or film with a special connection to North Carolina (the film was shot there).

Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project) and Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird) added their critics’ win totals, as did Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) and Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water).

The group ventured outside the norm with its Foreign Language Film and Documentary wins, choosing Okja and Kedi, respectively.

The NCFCA consists of approximately forty professional critics who live in the state or whose work contributes to an outlet based in North Carolina.
